To be able to understand allergies and asthma, you need to know in advance about how the immune system works. The immune system reacts to substances – called allergens – because they see them as harmful. The symptoms that show up because of an “allergic reaction” can make you feel miserable! As an allergy sufferer it is important to get to know the specific allergens that you are having a reaction to so that you can control your allergies.
There are more than 20% of all adults & children that suffer from allergies. A report written by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, stated that the allergies are the sixth leading cause of chronic illness. Most people will experience allergies during childhood or early adulthood. Many people may inherit allergies if there is a family history of allergies.
As an allergy sufferer, be very careful if you know you will have a reaction to a specific allergen; such as, peanuts, that you do not have any contact because having a reaction to an allergen can be life threatening.
