Recognize and Avoid all Triggers of Asthma

This is one of the most important way to control your life for asthma sufferers. The most common triggers are cigarette smoke, dust and pets. Outdoors pollen and the cold air are most frequent to be triggers of asthma attacks.

Perform all the following precautions to reduce asthma triggers and the possibility of an asthma attack:

  • Avoid all types of smoke, including smoke from the fire or burn foliage. Smoke can irritate the eyes, nose and respiratory tract. People with asthma also should not smoke and should not get close to the smokers.
  • Because influenza can be the beginning of a serious asthma attack, do an annual flu vaccination. Wash your hands thoroughly as often as possible in order to avoid cold
  • If you’re allergic to pollen, use the ac and close all windows and doors during the pollen season.
  • Limit the use of eye contact lenses. Instead use the glasses when the pollen season. Because the grains can be trapped  under contact lenses

Wrong Allergy Tests and Treatment

wrongIf you think having food allergies, watch out for certain tests and treatments that have not been proven true. Avoid procedures such as sitotostik, provocation and neutralization tests, and treatment of systemic hypersensitivity to yeast.

Cytotoxic test is mixing some food extracts with samples of white blood cells. Some people argue that if the white blood cells to change the shape, meaning the person is allergic to these foods. But it has not proven there is a correlation between changes with allergies of food.

In provocation and neutralization tests, patients are injected with small amounts of food extracts to provoke symptoms. When symptoms appear he was given an injection of these foods neutralizer. According to the theory, it will neutralize the injection of first dose. This diagnostic test is also not proven for the correctness.

Treatment of systemic hypersensitivity to yeast is based on the theory, yeast-like fungus called candida that becomes the cause of food allergies. They are recommended not to consume foods that contain yeast and mold – including fruits, milk, refined carbohydrates like bread, and processed foods. You must realize if information is very important in diagnosing allergies. You can have allergies because you have the family who has suffered an allergy before. Although the type of allergy is not the same, this could happen.

Skin test
To diagnose allergies, the most commonly used is the skin test and can be done in several ways. Usually the allergen suspected as the cause of allergy is  applied to the forearm, upper arm or back. Allergens can also be injected under the skin. In this way, the results can be seen 15 minutes later. If the tested  part is swollen and red, then the test is considered positive.

Skin test can not be fully guaranteed. Positive test result but in the daily life, the body does not react to these allergens. The results of a positive skin test to food allergens tend to be less accurate, if a test result is negative, it does not mean that you are not allergic to the food.

Skin test is very useful for respiratory allergies, insect sting allergies, latex allergies and allergic to penicillin.

Specific  IgE Antibody Test

Antibody test specificly for immunoglobulin E, which was formerly known as radioallergosorbent test (RAST),is useful  blood test to diagnose sensitivity to the inhalated alerfen like pollen or dust. These tests measure the antibodies inside. Unlike the skin test, this test is more comfortable and does not risk because all examinations to blood samples carried out in test tubes.

The weakness of this test is not sensitive to skin allergens. Analysis of blood samples should also be performed in special laboratories that the process takes a day or more, besides it also costs more expensive than skin tests.
